A week-long film festival highlighting Dhaka’s 416-year history, heritage and cultural diversity began at the historic Madhumita Cinema Hall in Motijheel on Saturday.
Organised by Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) as part of the ‘Hridoye Dhaka-416’ celebrations, the festival aims to introduce the capital’s rich history and cultural heritage to the younger generation through cinema.
The festival also recognised prominent filmmakers, artists, cultural figures, journalists and historic cinema halls for their contributions to preserving Bangladesh’s cinematic and cultural heritage.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Zahir Uddin Swapan praised the initiative and said its impact would be far-reaching.
DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam said cinema has played an important role in portraying the country’s Liberation War, Language Movement and other major historical struggles.
The festival will continue until August 28, with two free film screenings daily at Madhumita Cinema Hall at 3pm and 6pm.
- A selection of classic Bangladeshi films, including Mukh O Mukhosh, Nawab Sirajuddaula, Jibon Theke Neya, Rangbaaz, Dahan and Bodhu Biday, will be screened during the festival.
