Former Bagerhat-4 MP and Awami League Central Executive Committee member Amirul Alam Milon, 72, has been shown arrested in a case filed over the murder of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain.
Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Monday (24 August) after a hearing, said Rukonuzzaman, an inspector of the prosecution department.
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) Motijheel Division Sub-Inspector Md Tofazzal Hossain, the case’s investigation officer, produced Milon before the court and sought an order to show him arrested in the case.
The court accepted the application and ordered that Milon be sent to jail.
According to the case statement, BNP leaders and activists gathered in Naya Paltan on 10 December 2022 as part of a programme to press home their one-point demand.
The case alleges that police raided the BNP central office in Naya Paltan on 7 December, allegedly acting on the direct and indirect instructions of the accused. Extensive vandalism reportedly took place during the raid, while BNP activist Mokbul Hossain was shot and later died.
Mahfuzur Rahman filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on 30 September 2024.
The case names 256 people as accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, along with 400 to 500 unidentified individuals. Milon is listed as accused No. 99 in the first information report.
Milon was previously arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch in May 2025 and has remained in custody since then.
