Kylian Mbappé scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu on Wednesday, giving José Mourinho a memorable return to the stadium more than 13 years after his previous home match in charge of the Spanish giants.
Mbappé opened the scoring in the 40th minute with a superb finish after Federico Valverde split the defence with a fine pass.
Real Sociedad quickly equalised through Luka Sučić, leaving Madrid under pressure at half-time.
Mourinho’s changes at the break transformed Real Madrid. Mbappé restored the lead in the 60th minute after exchanging a quick one-two with Jude Bellingham, who later assisted Vinícius Júnior for Madrid’s third goal.
Mbappé completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, calmly chipping the goalkeeper after receiving a clever pass from Vinícius.
The victory was particularly significant for Mourinho, who returned to the Bernabéu as Real Madrid manager after more than 13 years.
He praised his players for responding strongly to the pressure from the home crowd, who had jeered the team during a disappointing first half.
The 4-1 win gave Real Madrid their second consecutive league victory and highlighted the growing attacking partnership between Mbappé, Vinícius and Bellingham.
