Iran will not allow military vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz under a proposed agreement with Oman, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has said.
Under the plan, commercial ships entering the Persian Gulf would use Iranian waters, while outbound traffic would pass through both Iranian and Omani waters. The temporary routes would remain in place while the two countries work on a permanent arrangement within 30 to 60 days.
The development comes amid tensions with Washington, which has opposed parts of the emerging deal, including joint Iranian-Omani management of the vital shipping route.
US President Donald Trump, meanwhile, said he was in no hurry to resume talks with Tehran, claiming the United States was “winning very big” as the conflict nears its six-month mark.
The prolonged conflict has disrupted shipping and trade across the region, driving up energy and transport costs and sharply reducing air traffic at Dubai International Airport.
