President vows to serve state without political bias

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said he will perform his state duties in a completely non-partisan manner and work solely for the welfare of the country and its people.

“Before assuming the presidency, I resigned from my party, Parliament and the Cabinet. I am now completely non-partisan and will discharge my responsibilities accordingly,” he said.

The president made the remarks at his first Durbar with officials and employees of Bangabhaban at the Durbar Hall at 11:30am on Thursday.

He said that as president, he would have no personal anger or favour toward anyone, adding that the interests of the country, state and people would remain his sole priority.

He stressed the importance of earning public trust and ensuring honesty, dedication, sincerity and responsibility in all circumstances.

Addressing Bangabhaban officials and employees, the president urged them to maintain love, respect and loyalty toward the country and its people and to perform their duties with sincerity and integrity.

Highlighting the history and heritage of Bangabhaban, he said it is a symbol of the dignity and sovereignty of the state, and its prestige must be preserved.

He also stressed strict confidentiality in all daily activities and matters related to important state decisions to ensure that national security is not compromised.

The president called for economical and responsible use of state funds and urged officials to prevent waste. He said government resources and facilities are funded by the people and must therefore be used properly, transparently and accountably.

He also encouraged officials and employees to maintain discipline in their personal lives and work regularly to strengthen their moral character.

The president paid deep tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War. He also recalled with respect the contributions and sacrifices of Ziaur Rahman, the martyred president and the country’s independence proclaimer, and former prime minister Khaleda Zia in post-war nation-building.

He also paid tribute to all previous presidents of the country.

“We are a family here. We all work in the same place. Whenever we have the opportunity, we will talk to one another and try to resolve our problems,” the president said.

He expressed hope that everyone would continue working together in the future.
