Argentina’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is set to join Premier League club Chelsea after the Blues reached an agreement with Aston Villa for a reported £7.5 million fee, equivalent to around Tk 125 crore.
Martinez played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 World Cup triumph. In the final against France, he produced a crucial late save to deny Randal Kolo Muani before making decisive saves in the penalty shootout. He also won the Golden Glove award at the tournament.
Chelsea reportedly became interested in the 33-year-old due to Robert Sanchez’s poor run of form. New head coach Xabi Alonso is said to be keen on bringing Martinez to Stamford Bridge, where he is expected to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Martinez has made 256 appearances for Aston Villa since joining from Arsenal in 2020. He had recently been close to a move to Juventus, but the transfer collapsed following a finger injury.
