US President Donald Trump has offered assistance to Nepal following devastating floods, while Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered emergency measures to support rescue operations in the disaster-hit country.
Trump described the scale of the disaster as unprecedented, saying even strong buildings had been swept away by floodwaters. He said 50 to 60 US citizens were missing, with some “unfortunately” feared dead.
Trump said the United States had been in contact with Nepal’s leadership and pledged to provide any assistance needed.
Meanwhile, Xi Jinping held an emergency meeting with officials on rescue efforts in Nepal, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. He ordered all-out efforts to locate missing people, including Chinese and other foreign nationals.
Xi also called for rescue operations to be conducted scientifically. China has decided to provide emergency assistance to flood-hit Nepal and cooperate with other countries in the rescue efforts.
