Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Shakhawat Hossain has ordered all private clinics and hospitals in Bangladesh to establish labour (delivery) rooms by Saturday (July 11), warning that those failing to comply will have their licences revoked.
The directive was issued on Monday (July 6) while the minister addressed a programme organised by the Bangladesh Midwifery Society in the capital.
He said every private healthcare facility must have a standard labour room to ensure safe childbirth, stressing that the government would show zero tolerance for negligence or non-compliance.
Speaking on the dengue situation, the minister said control measures have been underway at the upazila level for the past two months. Alongside ongoing cleanliness drives, mosquito larvicide tablets will be distributed within the next seven days.
He added that hospitals have sufficient beds and mobile healthcare services for dengue patients. Although there was a temporary shortage of saline, supplies have now been restored.
The minister also instructed doctors not to discharge dengue patients solely because their fever has subsided.
He said the country’s dengue situation is currently better than it was at the same time last year and noted that the government’s measles vaccination campaign has been successful.
