DSE trading begins week amid falling indices

Trading is underway on Sunday (August 30), the first trading day of the week, at the country’s main stock market, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). Although the market initially showed a positive trend, the indices have since continued to move downward.

The information was provided by DSE sources.

At 11:00am, half an hour after trading began, the DSE’s benchmark index, DSEX, had fallen 30 points from the previous session to 5,625.27 points. The DSE Shariah Index had declined by 3 points, while the DSE-30 Index had dropped 10.39 points to stand at 1,130 and 2,124 points, respectively.

During this period, shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 168.61 crore were traded.

Of the companies whose shares were traded, prices rose for 64 companies, fell for 262, while the prices of 59 companies remained unchanged.

As of 11:30am, the 10 companies leading trading activity were Sharp Industries, Summit Port, Beximco Limited, Saiham Textile, Walton, ML Dyeing, Saiham Cotton, Far Chemical and Paramount Textile.

Earlier, during the first five minutes of trading, the DSEX index gained 9 points. However, the downward trend soon returned. At 10:10am, the index had fallen 8 points from its earlier position. The index then continued to move downward.

Twenty minutes after trading began, at 10:20am, the DSEX had fallen 1 point from the previous session to 5,655 points.

The market has failed to recover since then, with the downward trend continuing.
