Dhaka: National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has alleged that “the dominance of syndicates in various sectors has started increasing again since the BNP came to power.”
He made the remarks at a press conference held at the airport on Monday (August 31) after returning to Bangladesh following an Umrah pilgrimage.
He said, “During the tenure of the interim government, airfares to Saudi Arabia had become affordable for ordinary people. But after the recent political change, ticket prices have risen abnormally again due to syndicates. As a result, ordinary devout people are facing severe hardship.”
He further said, “It is not just airfares; since the election was completed, price hikes and extortion have become rampant in almost every important sector of the country. Alongside rising prices of essential commodities, severe gas and electricity shortages have made life extremely difficult for ordinary people.”
He said the NCP is strongly urging the government to take swift and effective measures to reduce people’s suffering and restore normalcy to public life.
Regarding the Makkah Pact, he said the party views the agreement positively. However, he added that an NCP subcommittee is closely monitoring the entire matter and that the party is keeping a close watch on every development related to the agreement.
