A court in Mymensingh has sentenced one man to death and two others to life imprisonment for murdering an easy-bike driver during an attempted robbery.
The court also fined death-row convict Palash Tk30,000, while Toufayel Ahmed Nasim and Shakil, who were sentenced to life imprisonment, were each fined Tk50,000.
Mymensingh District and Sessions Judge and Special Judge Farhana Ferdous delivered the verdict on Monday (31 August).
According to court sources, on the night of 16 January 2024, the accused allegedly posed as passengers and attempted to rob Nazim Uddin of his easy bike in front of Maruf Sanitary Factory in the Dapunia Suhila Kadurbari area of Mymensingh Sadar upazila.
When Nazim resisted, the assailants stabbed him and fled with the easy bike. He was rescued in critical condition but later died from his injuries.
Nazim’s brother, Nasir Uddin, filed a murder case with Kotwali Model Police Station following the incident.
Police later arrested Nasim, Shakil and Palash and recovered the stolen easy bike.
After completing the investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court. Following a lengthy trial and examination of witnesses, the court delivered its verdict on Monday.
