The trailer for Daayra, directed by Meghna Gulzar, has been released, offering a gripping first look at a crime drama that explores truth, justice and the consequences of difficult choices.
Starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film is set to hit cinemas on September 18, 2026. Written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Gulzar, Daayra is inspired by true events.
The story unfolds after a crime sparks nationwide outrage and sets two investigations in motion. Kareena and Prithviraj play senior police officers who approach the case and their duties from different perspectives, finding themselves on opposing sides of a complex investigation.
The trailer builds tension through a series of revelations that challenge perceptions of the case. Its dialogues raise questions about how truth is established, how public opinion can shape a narrative and who ultimately decides what justice should look like.
Rather than focusing solely on the crime, the film examines the wider impact of public perception and the competing narratives that emerge around a high-profile case.
The film also features Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljeet Singh, Sandeep Kulkarni and Trupti Khamkar in key roles.
Kareena Kapoor Khan said playing DCP Ajooni Kohli pushed her into a new space as an actor. She also praised her experience working with Gulzar and Prithviraj, describing her co-star as an intelligent and instinctive performer.
Prithviraj Sukumaran said he was drawn to DCP Raman Kumar because of the character’s complexity and the questions he faces during the investigation. He praised Gulzar’s filmmaking and said working with Kareena made the experience particularly rewarding.
Gulzar described Daayra as a film that moves beyond simple notions of right and wrong and explores the “grey” areas of law, justice and human choices. She said the performances by Kareena and Prithviraj, supported by the ensemble cast, were central to bringing the story to life.
