A Dhaka court has shown former Awami League lawmakers Solaiman Selim, son of Haji Selim, and Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin arrested in a case filed over the killing of BNP activist Mokbul Hossain.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order on Monday (31 August) following separate petitions filed by the investigation officers.
The two accused were produced before the court under tight security. Their lawyer, Shri Pran Nath, sought to prevent them from being shown arrested in the case, while prosecutors opposed the plea. After hearing both sides, the court granted the investigators’ petitions.
According to the investigation petitions, Solaiman Selim, 35, and Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, 76, allegedly played behind-the-scenes roles in the incident, including arranging funding and issuing instructions while holding political positions.
Both are currently detained at Keraniganj Central Jail.
According to the case documents, BNP activist Mokbul Hossain was shot dead on 7 December 2022 during clashes surrounding a police raid on the BNP’s Nayapaltan office in Dhaka ahead of the party’s 10 December programme.
A case was filed on 30 September 2024 by Mahfuzur Rahman, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 255 others as accused.
