The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices by Tk 3,266 per bhori, bringing down the price of 22-carat gold to Tk 225,290 per bhori, including VAT, following a decline in the price of pure gold in the local market.
The new rates came into effect from 10:00am on Monday, according to a statement issued by BAJUS.
The association said the latest adjustment was made after reviewing the market price of tejabi (pure) gold, which had fallen in recent days.
Under the revised price structure, a bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold will now be sold at Tk 225,290, including VAT.
The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk 215,142 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 184,758 per bhori. Gold produced under the traditional method will be sold at Tk 150,932 per bhori.
BAJUS said the revised prices would remain effective at jewellery shops across the country until further notice.
The association noted that while the retail prices include VAT, making charges will continue to vary depending on the design and craftsmanship of individual jewellery items.
It also reminded jewellers that they are not allowed to charge VAT separately from customers, as the applicable VAT has already been incorporated into the retail prices.
BAJUS said the existing rules governing the purchase and exchange of gold ornaments, excluding VAT, making charges and the value of embedded stones, would remain unchanged. A separate decision regarding VAT on silver ornaments will be announced later.
The latest reduction comes just two days after BAJUS increased gold prices by Tk 5,482 per bhori on June 27, when the price of 22-carat gold was raised to Tk 228,556 per bhori, including VAT.
The frequent revisions reflect continued volatility in both domestic and international precious metals markets.
According to BAJUS data, the association has revised gold prices 83 times so far this year. Of those adjustments, prices were raised on 41 occasions, reduced 41 times, while one revision was related to VAT adjustments.
Despite the latest cut in gold prices, silver prices remain unchanged.
A bhori of 22-carat silver continues to sell at Tk 4,666, while 21-carat silver is priced at Tk 4,432 per bhori. The price of 18-carat silver remains Tk 3,791 per bhori, and traditional-method silver is selling at Tk 2,858 per bhori.
