The United States has approved a potential sale of nearly $800 million worth of military equipment to Iraq, including Bell 412EPX and Bell 407M helicopters, according to the US State Department.
The proposed package includes helicopters along with GAU-19 three-barrel machine guns, rocket systems, electro-optical/infrared sensors, missile warning systems, radios, spare parts and ground-support equipment.
It also covers training for pilots and maintenance personnel, as well as engineering, technical and logistical support from the US government and contractors.
The State Department said Monday (August 31) that the proposed sale would support US foreign policy and national security interests by strengthening the security capabilities of strategic partner Iraq.
The department said the equipment would help Iraq respond to current and emerging threats, while enhancing its capabilities for troop and equipment transport, surveillance and air-to-ground operations.
