Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said the government will bring the entire country under full digitalisation as quickly as possible to make banking and financial services more accessible, transparent and cost-effective.
Speaking at the “Innovation Showcasing 2025-26” programme organised by the Financial Institutions Division at the Secretariat on Monday (July 6), the finance minister said the initiative aims to ensure faster and easier access to public services while reducing time and costs for citizens.
He said the country’s digital transformation must be inclusive, involving ordinary citizens, businesses, farmers and workers alike.
The minister said the primary goal of digital technology is to simplify public services and improve transparency.
He noted that the national budget has been designed to include people from all walks of life, including artisans, artists and musicians, adding that technology is essential to achieving inclusive development.
Emphasising the importance of learning from global best practices, he said a high-level government delegation is currently visiting Estonia to study its advanced digital governance model.
He instructed officials to adopt international best practices in Bangladesh’s financial sector without delay.
Addressing senior officials from banks, insurance companies and financial institutions, the minister praised the innovations displayed at the event but said further improvements are needed.
He urged institutions to assess what percentage of their customers are receiving digital services and to encourage more clients to adopt online banking.
He also called on banks, insurance companies and capital market institutions to expand the coverage of digital financial services so people can access services easily from home or while travelling.
The minister said increasing digital access would reduce travel costs, save time and improve national productivity. He also urged the media to raise public awareness about digital financial services to help accelerate the country’s digital transformation.
