Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said students will receive their textbooks for the next academic year by December, ahead of the year-end examinations.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting at the Secretariat on Monday, the minister said the government is working to ensure timely printing and distribution of books.
He noted that the prime minister has directed the ministry to complete textbook preparation by November 30 so that students can receive books at the very start of the new year.
The tender process for printing is currently underway, with work orders expected to be issued by the first week of August. Printing will begin soon after, he added.
The ministry, in coordination with the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), will oversee the entire process to ensure smooth and timely distribution.
Milon said next year’s textbooks will also include revisions in line with curriculum updates.
Bangladesh has traditionally distributed free textbooks to students on the first day of the year since 2010, but the schedule has faced repeated delays in recent years.
This year, despite assurances, distribution extended beyond mid-January, with some secondary-level books reaching students only in February due to curriculum changes, delayed manuscripts and printing constraints.
