US forces have launched fresh strikes on targets in Iran, with President Donald Trump confirming the latest military action.
According to Reuters, the US military on Tuesday targeted positions linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were carried out in response to recent attempted attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and US troops deployed in the region.
In a post on X, CENTCOM said the strikes against IRGC targets began at noon Eastern Time.
Explosions were reportedly heard in several parts of southern Iran, including Bandar Abbas, Qeshm, Konarak and Chabahar, according to Al Jazeera’s live coverage.
Details about casualties or the extent of damage were not immediately available.
The latest strikes follow a series of attacks and counterattacks between the United States and Iran through Monday night.
Iran and the IRGC have strongly condemned the US action and threatened to impose what they described as a severe punishment in response.
