Bank of America Vice President Erin Piacenti, 32, was fatally stabbed in a random and unprovoked attack in New York City’s Times Square on Monday. A 68-year-old man was also injured in the attack and remained in hospital in stable condition.
Piacenti worked as a vice president in Bank of America’s Business Selection and Conflicts unit. She was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Fordham Law School. The bank and Fordham Law expressed deep sorrow over her death.
Police identified the attacker as Pamela Cisneros, 49, of Queens. According to police, Cisneros first stabbed the 68-year-old man before attacking Piacenti near West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue.
Officers confronted Cisneros shortly afterward and repeatedly ordered her to drop two large knives. She refused and advanced toward the officers.
Police first used a stun gun and then opened fire, killing her. Police said Cisneros had a documented history of mental-health-related encounters with officers.
Authorities described the attack as random and unprovoked and said there was no indication it was terror-related. The incident occurred near a Times Square police station, where another fatal stabbing took place in May.
