Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé was reportedly among 26 wealthy and high-profile individuals targeted by a criminal network suspected of planning kidnappings and attacks in France, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.
An 18-year-old Franco-Swiss man identified as Clément L., who allegedly operated under the alias “Lester Z,” has been charged in connection with the case.
Investigators believe he continued coordinating criminal activities from prison, including through Snapchat.
Police reportedly discovered information on 26 potential targets after examining two mobile phones linked to the suspect.
The list included footballers, rappers, wealthy entrepreneurs and businesspeople, with Mbappé among the most prominent names.
The investigation began following a series of attacks and an armed robbery involving a luxury watchmaker in the Paris region.
Authorities subsequently traced the alleged network to Clément L., who was already in custody in connection with other serious offences.
The suspect denies being the mastermind of the alleged plot, claiming that his role was limited to acting as an intermediary.
The investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the network and how far the kidnapping plans had progressed.
