Two people, including a motorcycle rider and a microbus driver, were killed in separate road accidents in Gaibandha’s Palashbari and Sadullapur upazilas on Thursday (September 3). Three others were injured in the accidents.
In Sadullapur, Golam Rabbani was killed when a bus hit his motorcycle at around 9:30am while he was taking his young son to school. His son was seriously injured.
Eyewitnesses said Rabbani, a resident of Shibpur area under Sahapara Union of Gaibandha Sadar upazila, was travelling to Sadullapur with his son when a Fatema Paribahan bus coming from Naldanga collided head-on with their motorcycle. Rabbani was thrown from the motorcycle and died on the spot.
His son was also thrown from the motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. Local residents rescued him and admitted him to Sadullapur Upazila Health Complex.
Sadullapur Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Taleb confirmed the incident, saying Rabbani worked in the accounts department of Sadullapur Government College.
In a separate accident in Palashbari, Masud Rana, a microbus driver, was killed in a head-on collision with an Al Hamra Paribahan bus near Majhipara, adjacent to Sakoa Bridge, at around 10am.
According to locals, the bus was travelling from Gaibandha to Dhaka with passengers when it collided with an oncoming microbus near Sakoa Bridge. Masud Rana died at the scene, while another person was injured.
