A court has ordered the seizure of 284 decimals of land and two Jeep vehicles owned by former Railways Minister Mujibul Haque in Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla, in connection with a corruption case. The court also ordered the freezing of six of his bank accounts.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order on Thursday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said ACC Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam.

ACC Assistant Director Papon Kumar Saha filed the application seeking the seizure of Mujibul Haque’s land and Jeep vehicles and the freezing of his bank accounts.

According to the application, the ACC filed a case against Mujibul Haque for allegedly abusing his power while serving as a minister and lawmaker to acquire and possess Tk 7.39 crore in assets beyond his known sources of income.

During the investigation, the ACC found from reviewing relevant records that the accused was allegedly attempting to transfer, relocate or dispose of immovable and movable assets held in his name or linked to his interests.

The application said there was a risk of loss if the assets were transferred or disposed of before the case was concluded. Therefore, the seizure and freezing of the assets were necessary in the interest of a proper investigation, it added.

The ACC filed the case against Mujibul Haque on February 17 last year.
