Two people, including a Chinese national, were rescued alive in Nepal on Saturday, 10 days after devastating floods swept through parts of the country.
The Chinese man was found inside a 225-metre tunnel at the Trishuli hydropower project. A joint team of Nepali military personnel and South Korean disaster-response specialists rescued him. He was medically assessed before being airlifted to safety.
His rescue brings to three the number of workers found alive at the hydropower project. Two Nepali workers were rescued from another tunnel on Friday.
Elsewhere, a woman was rescued alive from a house in flood-hit Nuwakot and airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment.
Authorities say around 900 workers remain missing from 12 hydropower projects across Nepal, with about 500 believed to be trapped inside tunnels.
The floods that struck Nepal on August 26 killed at least 1,300 people, while more than 5,000 remain missing, according to the country’s disaster management agency. The flooding was likely triggered by a glacier collapse.
