Three killed in Gazipur road crash

Three people were killed and two others injured when a covered van collided head-on with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 11:30am in the Kanchanpur Chairman Bari area on the Kaliakair-Phulbaria-Mawna regional road, said Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam.

Police said the auto-rickshaw was carrying four passengers from Kaliakair towards Mawna Chowrasta in Sreepur when it collided with the oncoming covered van. The auto-rickshaw was crushed in the impact, while the van fell off the road.

Five people, including the auto-rickshaw driver, sustained serious injuries. They were taken to Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared two dead. Another victim later died while undergoing treatment.

Police said two of the deceased were reportedly a mother and her son. Authorities are working to identify the victims and inform their families.
