Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) observed the 55th martyrdom anniversary of Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Lance Naik Noor Mohammad Sheikh with due respect and solemnity on Saturday.
The ceremony was organised by BGB’s Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) at his gravesite in Kashipur of Sharsha upazila, where members of a smartly turned-out BGB contingent laid floral wreaths and presented a guard of honour.
A special prayer and munajat were also held for the eternal peace of the martyr’s soul. Tabarruk was later distributed among those attending the programme.
Jessore Battalion Commander Lt Col Golam Mohammad Saiful Alam Khan said Noor Mohammad Sheikh’s extraordinary bravery and sacrifice during the Liberation War would remain an enduring part of the nation’s history.
He said the anniversary was observed every year with due solemnity to honour his contribution and inspire the younger generation by telling the story of his heroism.
“Noor Mohammad Sheikh’s patriotism, courage and supreme sacrifice will remain a lasting source of inspiration for Bangladesh,” he said.
Family members of the martyred freedom fighter, local representatives, journalists and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
