Dolly Parton’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been replaced with a new one, giving the country music icon’s longtime landmark a fresh appearance after more than four decades of wear and tear.
Workers removed Parton’s original star from Hollywood Boulevard and installed a replacement in the same location. The old star had been in place for about 42 years and had become visibly worn after decades of heavy pedestrian traffic.
The replacement also follows reports that the original star had been vandalised. Repairs were reportedly already being planned before the latest work was carried out.
The new star was restored through a process that included grinding, sanding and polishing before it was placed back on the famous Hollywood sidewalk.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame, one of Los Angeles’ best-known landmarks, was officially dedicated in 1960. It now features more than 2,800 stars honouring figures from film, television, music, theatre, radio and other areas of entertainment.
A single company has been responsible for manufacturing all of the stars installed since the Walk of Fame was established.
Parton received her star in 1987 in recognition of her contribution to the recording industry. She has since become one of the most recognisable figures in country music, with a career spanning more than six decades.
Born in Tennessee in 1946, Parton rose from a poor childhood in the Smoky Mountains to become a singer, songwriter, actress, author and philanthropist. She has written and recorded numerous country classics and has also achieved major success in mainstream popular culture.
Her songs, including “Jolene” and “9 to 5,” have become enduring hits, while her songwriting has earned her recognition across the music industry.
Beyond music, Parton is known for her Dollywood theme park in Tennessee and her philanthropic work. Her Imagination Library programme, launched in 1995, provides free books to children and has expanded internationally.
The newly installed star ensures that one of Hollywood Boulevard’s most recognisable tributes to Parton will remain in place for years to come.
