Md Mojibur Rahman Bhuiyan and Nazrul Islam Khan have been elected chairman and secretary general, respectively, of the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS).
They were elected at the organisation’s 10th Biennial Conference and General Meeting held on Saturday at the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Dhaka.
The conference was held under the theme, “Commitment to move forward to ensure dignity, rights, and fair share.”
A full executive committee was also elected at the meeting to oversee the organisation’s activities for the next term.
Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, MP, Anwar Hossain and Amirul Haq Amin were elected vice-chairmen.
Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmmed, Sakil Akhtar Chowdhury and Abul Kalam Azad were elected joint secretaries general, while Md Rofiqul Islam Rofiq was elected treasurer.
The newly elected secretaries are Monzurul Islam, Badal Khan, AAM Favez Hossain, Shamim Ara, Shahidullah Badal and Nasrin Akter Dina.
The executive members are ABM Sajjad Hossain, Umme Hasan Jhalmal, Pulok Ranjan Dhar, Nargis Jahan, Md Nurul Amin, Robiul Haq, MR Monju and Md Mojibor Rahman.
The biennial conference was attended by BILS general members, advisers and executive committee members from different parts of the country.
The conference reviewed the organisation’s activities and discussed its future priorities, with particular emphasis on workers’ dignity, labour rights and a fair share for working people.
The newly elected leadership is expected to lead BILS in strengthening its advocacy and research on labour rights and promoting greater protection and welfare for workers.
