Shaheed Zia Shishu Park in Shahbagh is expected to reopen to the public by 30 June 2027, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam said on Sunday (6 September).

Speaking at the inauguration of Pubali Bank PLC’s Shishu Park Branch at the park premises, Salam said the government was working to complete the remaining work on the long-delayed modernisation project.

“Physical progress of the project currently stands at 30%. An international tender has already been invited to procure 15 state-of-the-art rides for children, which account for around 75% of the total project work,” he said.

“We hope to gift children a modern park within the stipulated time,” he added.

As part of the project, the building housing Pubali Bank’s branch on the park premises has also been reconstructed.

Salam urged businesses to contribute to making Dhaka a “clean and green city” through corporate social responsibility initiatives, including road beautification, cleanliness campaigns and tree planting.

He also called on residents to keep their surroundings clean and prevent stagnant water from accumulating for more than three days to help curb dengue.

“Citizen awareness is the main way to control dengue,” he said.

Pubali Bank Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Ali attended the event as a special guest, along with senior officials from the bank and the city corporation.
