Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen on Sunday attended the closing ceremony of the 8th China Ambassador Cup Wushu Championship-2026, where he presented awards to the winning teams and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting the development of Wushu and sports in Bangladesh.
More than 600 people, including State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque, President of the Bangladesh Wushu Federation Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, participating athletes and Wushu enthusiasts, attended the event.
Addressing the closing ceremony, Ambassador Yao said Wushu, which originated in China, has now become a sport embraced by people around the world.
He said Wushu embodies the spirit of excellence and self-improvement while reflecting the wisdom of “harmony in diversity” and the philosophy of promoting peace through martial arts.
“In recent years, Wushu has gained increasing popularity in Bangladesh, opening a new chapter in exchanges and mutual learning between our two civilisations,” the ambassador said.
He said China would continue to support the development of Wushu and sports in Bangladesh, adding that stronger sporting exchanges could help deepen people-to-people ties between the two countries.
Such cooperation, he said, would inject fresh momentum into efforts to build an even closer China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque praised the role of Wushu in promoting physical fitness, discipline and personal development among young people in Bangladesh.
He expressed hope that the China Ambassador Cup Wushu Championship would continue to serve as an important platform for inspiring young Bangladeshi athletes.
The championship, he said, provides young people with an opportunity to strengthen their bodies, develop discipline and confidence, and uplift their spirits through the practice of Wushu.
Aminul Haque also said sporting exchanges such as the China Ambassador Cup could play an important role in strengthening friendship and people-to-people connections between Bangladesh and China.
The championship brought together athletes and Wushu enthusiasts, reflecting the sport’s growing popularity in Bangladesh and the expanding sporting and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
