A group of transport workers blocked the road in front of Dhaka’s Mohakhali Bus Terminal on Thursday, protesting over their demands.
The blockade brought traffic to a halt on both sides of the road, causing severe congestion in the area.
Police Sergeant Belal Hossain, who was on duty in Mohakhali, said, “The workers have blocked both sides of the road in front of the terminal. This has caused heavy traffic congestion throughout the area.”
The police officer could not immediately say what demands had prompted the protest.
Police recently began relocating idle buses from Mohakhali to Purbachal, a move that has reportedly caused dissatisfaction among bus owners and workers.
It was not immediately clear whether the road blockade was linked to that discontent.
