Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus has been invited to visit Iran, as he underscored the importance of regional peace for sustainable development and prosperity.
The invitation was extended by Iran’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, during a meeting at the Yunus Centre on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Prof Yunus emphasised that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
He noted that regional peace is not only desirable but essential for ensuring prosperity and development, both within the region and globally.
The Iranian ambassador expressed appreciation for Prof Yunus’s leadership of Bangladesh’s interim government and his role in guiding the country through a peaceful election in February, paving the way for democratic transition.
Prof Yunus also conveyed his condolences on the passing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people in their pursuit of sovereign rights.
Both sides highlighted the importance of continued engagement and cooperation to promote peace, stability and mutual understanding.
