The prosecution has filed a formal complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal against five police officers, including former Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) chief Asaduzzaman, over the alleged abduction, torture, killing and enforced disappearance of a madrasa principal in Gazipur in 2023.
Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam confirmed that the complaint was submitted to the tribunal registrar’s office on Wednesday.
The accused are then-CTTC chief Md Asaduzzaman, ADC Ishtiaq Ahmed, police inspector Md Asaduzzaman Mia, police inspector Md Mezbah Uddin Ahmed and SI Touhidul Islam Sumon.
According to the complaint, CTTC members picked up Maulana Abul Hossain Al-Amin, principal of Madrasa Ibn Masud in Gazipur, on January 30, 2023, allegedly because he had criticised government policy decisions.
He was allegedly held illegally at the CTTC office on Minto Road until February 17.
The prosecution alleges that he was subjected to physical and psychological torture for 18 days under the leadership of ADC Ishtiaq Ahmed, leaving him in critical condition.
He was taken to Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital on February 18, where he died, according to the complaint.
The complaint further alleges that, in an attempt to conceal the alleged killing, the accused dumped his body into the Dhaleshwari River from Tulshikhali Bridge in the Lakirchar area of Keraniganj, Dhaka.
