The government has raised the price of low-tier cigarettes again, increasing the maximum retail price for a 10-stick pack from Tk 62 to Tk 65.
The decision was announced in a gazette signed by National Board of Revenue (NBR) Acting Chairman Ahsan Habib on Wednesday (September 16). The matter came to light on Thursday (September 17).
According to the gazette, prices of cigarettes in other tiers remain unchanged. The price of a 10-stick pack is Tk 92 for the medium tier, Tk 160 for the high tier, and Tk 210 and above for the premium tier.
The Cabinet recently approved a proposal to raise the price of low-tier cigarettes. Earlier, the 2026-27 budget had increased prices across all cigarette tiers.
Under that budget, the price of a 10-stick pack of low-tier cigarettes was raised from Tk 60 to Tk 62. The latest decision adds another Tk 3, bringing the maximum retail price to Tk 65.
The budget also raised the prices of medium-tier cigarettes from Tk 80 to Tk 92, high-tier cigarettes from Tk 140 to Tk 160, and premium-tier cigarettes from Tk 185 to Tk 210.
