Gold prices have risen in Bangladesh after several rounds of reductions. The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) most recently increased the price by Tk 1,050 per bhori, setting the price of 22-carat gold at Tk 232,930 per bhori.

The new price was decided unanimously at a meeting of BAJUS’s Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Saturday (September 12). The revised prices came into effect at 10am that day. The same rates will remain applicable today, Friday (September 18).

Under the revised rates, 22-carat hallmarked gold is priced at Tk 232,930 per bhori (11.664 grams). The price of 21-carat gold is Tk 222,490 per bhori, while 18-carat gold costs Tk 191,056 per bhori. Gold sold under the traditional method is priced at Tk 156,064 per bhori.

Before this adjustment, BAJUS had last revised gold prices on Thursday (September 11). At the time, the price of quality gold was reduced by Tk 2,158 per bhori to Tk 231,880.

BAJUS said the latest prices were set after considering the overall market situation, particularly an increase in the price of Tejabi gold, or pure gold.

According to BAJUS, making charges will apply depending on the design of the jewellery. However, since VAT is included in the selling price of gold and silver jewellery, jewellers cannot collect VAT separately from customers.

The BAJUS-set prices will remain effective at jewellery shops across Bangladesh until further notice.
