Bangladeshi actor Mortuza Palash was arrested at the airport on August 28 while returning home after completing more than 25 days of shooting for the film Shikar in Nepal, putting the remaining work on the project in uncertainty.
The actor had joined the shooting of the film starring Apu Biswas in Nepal. The Shikar team returned to Bangladesh on August 28 after completing most of the filming amid disruptions caused by flash floods. Palash was arrested at the airport that same day, although news of his arrest remained undisclosed until recently.
According to sources, Palash was arrested in a murder case and subsequently placed on remand. After the remand period, a Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court ordered that he be sent to jail.
A case-related source claimed that police obtained information from Palash during interrogation about the incident and other accused in the case. However, no official statement from law enforcement agencies was immediately available.
Meanwhile, Palash’s detention has created uncertainty over the remaining shooting of Shikar. Most of the film’s scenes have already been shot in Nepal, but several scenes and song sequences are still pending.
Director Kamruzzaman Roman had planned to shoot the remaining portions in October. However, he has been unable to finalise the schedule because the lead actor remains in jail.
“Most of the shooting of Shikar in Nepal has been completed. We planned to finish the remaining work in October. But as the actor is in jail, we cannot finalise the schedule yet,” Roman said.
“Mortuza Palash is dealing with the matter legally. The production company hopes he will be released soon. Otherwise, we have no option but to wait,” he added.
Shikar is a thriller based on a story set in a border area. Written by Abdullah Zahir Babu, the film also stars Mahmudul Islam Mithu, Suman Anwar and West Bengal actors Kharaj Mukherjee, Rajatava Dutta and Shyam Bhattacharya.
The film is being produced under the banner of Reza Films.
