The audio recording allegedly featuring Md Rakibul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Dhaka’s Cantonment Police Station, in which he comments on former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s possible return to Bangladesh, has been sent for forensic analysis, according to reports.
A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the recording and is questioning Rakibul, who was withdrawn from the Cantonment Police Station after the audio went viral.
In the recording, a voice identified as Rakibul is heard saying that “nothing will happen” if Hasina returns to Bangladesh in December, while also commenting on the weakness of the police force.
The audio reportedly contains allegations concerning political affiliations among senior police officers and financial transactions related to postings.
Rakibul has denied that the voice is his, claiming in a Facebook post that the recording was generated using advanced artificial intelligence.
Police sources had initially identified the voice as Rakibul’s, but the authenticity of the recording has not yet been independently established.
The forensic examination is expected to help determine whether the audio has been manipulated or generated using AI.
DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed ordered Rakibul’s withdrawal on September 17, attaching him to the Central Reserve Office under the DMP headquarters and administration division for “administrative reasons.”
