Bangladesh women’s cricket team will play a friendly match against China on Saturday after their Asian Games quarter-final was abandoned due to rain, with Bangladesh advancing to the semi-finals on the strength of their higher ranking.

The friendly has been arranged at China’s request, Bangladesh team manager S M Golam Faiyaz confirmed.

The match is scheduled to be played on Saturday morning and will have no bearing on the Asian Games competition. The game is being organised to promote goodwill and strengthen relations between the two teams.

Bangladesh were originally scheduled to face China in the quarter-final. However, persistent rain left the ground unfit for play and the match could not begin as scheduled. It was subsequently abandoned, allowing Bangladesh to progress to the semi-finals under the tournament rules because of their superior ranking.

The Bangladesh team faces a busy schedule on Saturday. After playing the friendly against China in the morning, the team will attend the Asian Games opening ceremony in the afternoon.

The decision to arrange the friendly was taken after discussions between the Bangladesh team management and the relevant authorities.

The unofficial match will also give Nigar Sultana’s side an opportunity to get some match practice and fine-tune their preparations ahead of the Asian Games semi-final.
