The government has issued a gazette notification introducing a new pay and allowance structure for public servants.
The Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance published the notification on Saturday, titled the Government Services (Pay and Allowances) Order, 2026.
Under the new structure, officials in grades 9 and above will receive 40% of the additional basic pay from the new scale for the period from July 1 to December 31, 2026, while employees in grades 10 to 20 will receive 50%. The amount will be added to the salary drawn or payable as of June 30.
From January 1 to June 30, 2027, employees in grades 9 and above will receive 70% of the additional basic pay, while those in grades 10 to 20 will receive 75%. The full increase will take effect from July 1, 2027.
As the new pay structure is effective from July 1, 2026, government employees will also receive arrears for the period.
The gazette says other allowances under the new pay structure will come into effect from January 1, 2028. Pensioners will also receive the benefits under the new structure.
Under the National Pay Scale 2026, basic salaries for grades 1 to 10 will increase by up to 100%, while those for grades 11 to 20 will rise by up to 142%.

The minimum basic salary will rise from Tk8,250 to Tk20,000, an increase of 142%, while the maximum will rise from Tk78,000 to Tk156,000.
The new structure retains 20 grades and will be implemented in three phases. The basic pay of ninth-grade officials, including newly recruited BCS officers, will rise from Tk22,000 to Tk44,000.
The government has also approved a monthly allowance of Tk3,000 for children with special needs.
The new pay structure is expected to benefit around 2.4 million serving military and civilian employees and approximately 925,000 retired employees and other eligible beneficiaries.
The additional annual expenditure is estimated at around Tk105,580 crore.
