Poet and popular television actor Rifat Chowdhury has been hospitalised after falling ill.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Medicine Unit of the new building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the capital.
According to his family, Chowdhury has been suffering from physical weakness, excessive fatigue, breathing difficulties, chest pain and insomnia for several days. His condition deteriorated recently, prompting his admission to hospital.
He is receiving necessary treatment as advised by doctors, who are closely monitoring his condition. His family, colleagues and well-wishers hope he will recover soon and return to normal life.
Born in 1960 in Kishoreganj town, Chowdhury began writing in the 1980s and was actively involved in the little magazine movement. He edited a little magazine titled Chhat Kagojer Molat.
His first poetry collection, Alingoner Naam, was published in 1984. He has published 29 books so far, including Megher Pratibha, Uthonto Brikkhyer Patra, Bodhhir B-dwip, Samudre Nun-er Putul, Suprabhat, Surjya and Ami Ekjon Bhougolic.
Chowdhury began his acting career with Nurul Alam Atique’s television drama Bijon Manush. His breakthrough came with Mostofa Sarwar Farooki’s popular serial Sixty Nine, in which he became known as “Rifat Kaka”.
He later acted in Farooki’s film Bachelor and also appeared in Meherjaan. He has featured in numerous television dramas, including Housefull, Aim in Life, Patiganit, 420, Sixty Nine, Bonmanush, Bicycle, Carrom and Muri’r Tin.
