A high-level parliamentary delegation from Germany’s Bundestag has visited the Meghna Industrial Economic Zone (MIEZ) to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral trade, investment and industrial cooperation between Germany and Bangladesh.
The delegation was welcomed by Mostafa Kamal, Chairman and Managing Director of Meghna Group of Industries (MGI).
The delegation was led by Bundestag MP Nicklas Kappe and included Gerold Otten, a retired colonel and MP, Johann Saathoff, MP, and Ursula Schauws, MP. Anja Katerina Elisabeth Bienert, an accompanying officer from the Administration of the German Bundestag, and interpreter Max Doerfler were also part of the delegation.
German Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Rüdiger Lotz accompanied the delegation, along with senior officials of the German Embassy in Dhaka, including Economic Attaché Olga Nowikow Winnen, Head of Political, Press and Culture Monika Reuter, Political and Press Officer Miftahul Jannat, and Economic Affairs Officer Mehrab Bin Tarek.
The delegation visited key facilities and features of MIEZ on Friday, with particular attention to two German-owned factories operating in the zone — CHT Bangladesh Limited and Siegwerk Bangladesh Limited.
Most factories at MIEZ rely on German machinery and technology, highlighting the strong industrial ties between the two countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Bundestag MP Nicklas Kappe said, “It is encouraging to see the strong presence of German industry and technology at MIEZ. Visits like this reaffirm the depth of the economic partnership between Germany and Bangladesh, and we look forward to seeing this cooperation grow further in the years ahead.”
MGI Chairman and Managing Director Mostafa Kamal said he was honoured to welcome the German parliamentary delegation to MIEZ.
“Germany has long been one of Bangladesh’s key economic and development partners. This relationship is built on decades of cooperation in infrastructure, health, and energy, along with growing efforts in trade, investment, and human resource development,” he said.
Kamal added that MIEZ was Bangladesh’s most modern private economic zone, offering uninterrupted power, gas and water supplies, reliable security, waste management and its own firefighting system.
“We invite our German investors to invest more here, and we assure them of full support and cooperation,” he said.
Besides MIEZ, MGI operates two other private economic zones — Comilla Economic Zone and Titas Economic Zone.
The group said it has developed the economic zones as modern, investor-friendly hubs with comprehensive facilities and security systems. In addition to local industries, companies from Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Norway, Japan, India, China, Belgium and the United States have established factories in these zones.
