The hanging body of Mosammat Mariam Khatun, 19, the second wife of Satkhira-4 lawmaker GM Nazrul Islam, was recovered from a flat at the NAM Bhaban in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Sunday evening.
Police went to the scene around 7pm after receiving information and found Mariam’s body hanging from a ceiling fan inside Flat 203 on the third floor of Building No. 5 of the government residential complex.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Tejgaon Division) Ibn-e-Mizan said police, including himself, had reached the scene after being informed of the incident.
“The body was seen hanging from a ceiling fan through a window of a room,” he said.
He said forensic teams from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had been called to the scene. Police would enter the room after the forensic teams completed their initial work.
The DCP said the exact time of the incident was not immediately known.
“Whether it was suicide or something else will be determined through investigation,” he said.
Police were investigating the incident.
