Chattogram Customs House has ordered the clearance of auctioned goods lying at the port within 15 working days from the date of publication of a public notice.
The auction branch of Chattogram Customs House issued the notice on September 16.
According to the notice, a large quantity of uncleared, auctioned and auctionable consignments has been lying for a long time in various yards, sheds and storage areas of the port. The prolonged storage of containerised cargo could disrupt the port’s capacity and normal operations, it said.
Bidders whose auctioned consignments have not been collected despite the issuance of sale orders have been asked to take delivery within 15 working days after paying the applicable price, source tax, source VAT and other legal and financial liabilities.
The notice also asked importers, exporters, shipping lines or agents, custodians and other stakeholders with any valid claim, title or objection to the consignments to submit written claims to the Customs House’s auction branch within seven working days, along with relevant documents and certified evidence.
If the goods are not collected within the stipulated period and no valid claim, objection or legal impediment is submitted, the authorities will arrange for their re-auction, destruction or other legal disposal in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
The notice said that if a bidder fails to clear the goods within the deadline, the sale approval will be cancelled and the deposit or pay order submitted by the bidder will be forfeited in favour of the state. Legal action, including re-auction of the goods, will also be taken.
The initiative aims to expedite the disposal of long-pending auctioned and auctionable goods at Chattogram Port, reduce cargo congestion, boost revenue collection and ensure better utilisation of the port’s capacity.
