Nine people, including seven members of the same family, were killed in a two-car collision in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province on Sunday.
The accident occurred on the Al-Uqair-Al-Uyoun road in the Al-Ahsa area, according to Saudi traffic authorities.
The seven members of the family included a father, mother, three sons and two daughters. Two young men travelling in the other vehicle were also killed in the crash.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision.
An initial investigation indicated that a sudden change in the vehicle’s direction may have caused the accident, the Eastern Province Traffic Department said.
Civil Defence and Saudi Red Crescent rescue teams rushed to the scene and worked to retrieve people trapped in the wreckage.
Legal procedures have been initiated following the accident.
