BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has claimed that fuel prices in Bangladesh are much lower than in many other countries.
He made the remarks at a briefing on Monday afternoon, saying the government was trying to address the ongoing fuel crisis.
“Fuel prices in Bangladesh are much lower compared to other countries. There is a war in the Middle East, and we are providing subsidies on fuel. Even after adjusting prices, we are still incurring losses,” Rizvi said.
He also cited current fuel prices in several countries and said the government was making sincere efforts to resolve the fuel crisis.
Rizvi criticised the language used against the government during the opposition alliance’s long march, saying discussions should instead focus on ways to ensure fuel is supplied at affordable prices.
He warned that the BNP would not remain passive if the opposition issued a “one-point” ultimatum.
Rizvi also alleged that bus fires and cocktail blasts in Dhaka and other parts of the country were planned acts of violence aimed at destabilising the country. He further claimed that conspiracies were underway to divert social development and public welfare programmes from their intended objectives.
