The government plans to provide 10 kidney dialysis machines to every upazila across the country within the next two years as part of efforts to expand dialysis services, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain said Sunday.
“There is a plan to provide 10 kidney dialysis machines to each upazila within the next two years,” he said, adding that the government has also taken various initiatives to improve the skills of doctors.
The minister was speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed Respiratory Critical Care and Interventional Pulmonology Centre at the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) in Mohakhali.
He said the government is giving the highest priority to the health sector, describing improvements in healthcare as a major achievement for the government.
The minister also said allocations are being increased for hospitals that receive large numbers of patients from across the country.
NIDCH has expanded its intensive care services with the addition of a 40-bed ICU, 21 years after the hospital was inaugurated in 2005, he said.
NIDCH Director Dr Golam Sarwar Liaquat Hossain Bhuiyan chaired the event, attended by Bangladesh Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr FM Siddiqui, DGHS Director General Prof Dr Pravath Chandra Biswas, Doctors Association of Bangladesh President Prof Dr Harun Al Rashid and Secretary General Dr Zohirul Islam Shakil.
