Customs officials have seized 120 gold bars weighing around 13.99 kilograms from a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The gold was recovered on September 5 from flight BG-148, which arrived in Dhaka from Dubai via Chattogram, following a tip-off about an attempted smuggling operation.
According to the case statement, an assistant technical helper of Biman Bangladesh Airlines was found moving suspiciously inside the aircraft cabin after security personnel arrived.
He allegedly threw a packet containing the gold bars inside the cabin.
Officials later recovered the packet and found 120 gold bars wrapped in cloth.
The bars contained approximately 13,992 grams of 24-carat gold, with an estimated market value of Tk 25.20 crore.
A case was filed with Airport Police Station under the Special Powers Act.
The Biman employee was subsequently produced before a Dhaka court and sent to jail after completion of a five-day remand.
Authorities said the seized gold was secured by Customs and the legal process for its disposal was being followed.
