A joint team of the Crime Suppression Force’s SRB-6 (Khulna) and SRB-8 (Barishal) has arrested a key accused in the murder of Khulna student Azmul Hossain Azam.
The accused, Md Hasnat Habib Rifat, 30, was arrested during a special operation in the Kurianna Adabari area under Nesarabad Police Station in Pirojpur on Monday night, following a tip-off.
Rifat is the son of Monwar Hossain of Gunergati area in Sirajganj Sadar. He was working as a cash officer at the Town Noapara branch of Bangladesh Krishi Bank.
During preliminary interrogation, Rifat reportedly admitted to his direct involvement in Azmul’s murder, according to the crime suppression force.
Based on information obtained from him, SRB-6 is continuing operations to arrest other accused in the case.
Rifat was later handed over to Harintana Police Station of Khulna Metropolitan Police for further legal action.
SRB-6 Commanding Officer Miftar Ahmed confirmed the arrest.
