The White House in Washington announced the launch on YouTube of a round-the-clock broadcast, TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station. The broadcast is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time. This came after U.S. President Donald Trump decided to restrict CNN, Politico and MS NOW access to the White House press pool.
White House position: As the Jerusalem Post reports, the White House defended the decision in a statement. It said that the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees media outlets the right to publish materials, but does not grant them the right to a permanent press pass, a seat in the briefing room, or participation in the press pool.
The administration also said that restricting journalists’ access is not a new practice, citing examples from the presidencies of Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The statement emphasized that no president is obligated to admit to the White House premises a media outlet that they consider hostile.
Trump’s statements and reaction: Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform that CNN, Politico and MS NOW had filed a lawsuit to gain access to the White House. The president called these outlets “fake media” and said their publications allegedly harm national security through, in his words, false and defamatory materials citing unnamed sources.
Critics, including representatives of major media outlets, called the launch of TRUMP TV an attempt to create “state media.” During a joint press conference with Trump, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani spoke in favor of all journalists being present at events regardless of their position or criticism.
