All educational institutions to remain closed tomorrow

Dhaka, Sept 22: All educational institutions across Bangladesh will remain closed on Wednesday (Sept 23) on the occasion of Fateha-e-Yazdaham.

According to a revised holiday schedule issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry, the holiday date has been changed from Sept 24 to Sept 23 following the sighting of the moon.

The holiday will apply to primary and secondary schools, colleges, madrasas and technical educational institutions across the country. No classes or examinations will be held on the day.

Educational institutions will resume regular activities on Thursday, Sept 24.

The change has also affected the academic schedule for newly admitted Class XI students for the 2026–27 academic year.

Their classes, originally scheduled to begin on Sept 23, will now start on Sept 24.

The revised decision followed a change to the 2026 holiday calendar based on a decision by the Islamic Foundation.

The holiday was initially scheduled for Sept 24 but was brought forward by one day.

Fateha-e-Yazdaham is observed on the 11th day of Rabi’ al-Thani in the Islamic calendar and is associated with the death anniversary of Abdul Qadir Jilani, a prominent Sufi saint.
