Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman attended a reception in Dhaka marking Saudi Arabia’s 96th National Day on Tuesday evening.
The reception, hosted by the Saudi Embassy in Dhaka, was held at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Dhaka in Banani.
During the event, Dr Shafiqur Rahman handed a letter of congratulations and greetings to Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafar bin Abiah, addressed to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
In the letter, he conveyed, on behalf of Bangladesh and its people, warm greetings and congratulations to the Saudi King, the royal family, the Saudi government and the people of Saudi Arabia on the occasion.
He also highlighted the deep respect and affection Muslims around the world hold for Saudi Arabia, particularly for its role in serving and managing the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.
The letter also praised Saudi Arabia’s support and services to Muslims visiting the country from around the world to perform Hajj and Umrah.
It described Bangladesh-Saudi relations as extending beyond conventional bilateral ties, saying they are rooted in deep religious, cultural and people-to-people connections. It also noted that the large Bangladeshi community living in Saudi Arabia serves as an important human bridge between the two countries.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman expressed hope that the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia would be further strengthened.
He also exchanged greetings with diplomats from various countries and other guests attending the reception.
Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretaries General Maulana ATM Masum, Maulana Mohammad Abdul Halim and Advocate Ahsanul Mahbub Zubair, along with opposition leader’s foreign affairs advisory committee member Ali Ahmad Mabrur, were also present.
